It’s hard to fathom that the end of the college football season arrived as quickly as it did. I was just getting use to my Saturdays being spent on the field photographing games. Lucky for me that my last game of the season I was able to photograph the Miami Hurricanes beat the Duke Blue Devils on Senior Day at Hard Rock Stadium.
Senior Day is always a great game to be at, even if the Hurricanes had lost the game. All the seniors are honored before the game and then they get to take photos on the field with their families and coaches etc. It’s a nice way to thank them for their four years of commitment to the program and for all their on field contributions.
Ever since the University of Miami media staff banned photographers from photographing on field prior to the game for either the Senior Day activities or even from the team running out from the smoke, us photographers were banished 50 yards way to the opposite end of the field. It’s quite comical that the University wants us to take photographs that show their University in a great way but bans us all season from taking the most iconic photos that the University of Miami is known for, running out of the smoke.
Senior Day isn’t just for the graduating seniors on the team, I use that game to reflect on the season. One last time on the field, thinking about all the shots I missed and the ones I got. This year has been a very different year for me, but in a good way. I had more photographers coming up to me and mentioning they’ve seen my work and more conversations on the sidelines. Not to mention the number of Miami Hurricane players liking my photos on Instagram and sharing them on their feed.
Alas all things must come to an end and this season was no exception. Now my anticipation for next season grows and I can’t wait to be out there for another season of Miami Hurricane football.
