After a long season, the end was finally here. The last home game is always the Miami Hurricanes Senior Day and this being the final game of the season against Pitt was no different. It felt different this time from a team enthusiasm stand point. It felt like this team had nothing to play for and it showed during the game.
I did my normal pre-game routine, but I also soaked in the surroundings one last time as I won’t be back on the field shooting the Hurricanes till next season.
The game itself was disheartening to watch. The Hurricanes didn’t show up to play and to be honest it felt like they didn’t want to be there. I felt bad for the seniors who on their Miami Hurricanes Senior Day were unable to get a win.
The good that came for the Hurricanes, Duke Johnson becoming the all time leading rusher and Clive Walkford being the new catch leader for tight ends were all for naught as the team couldn’t stop Pitt or score themselves.
After the game it was the same feeling. The seniors were upset and soaking in the stadium one last time. Some seniors will be back as pros others won’t be as fortunate. The season felt like it had momentum to be epic, but to fans and the media it was an epic failure.
I stuck around for the press conference afterwards and it was depressing to hear coaches and players lament on the loss and how their record isn’t indicative of the talent the team has. Walking out to my truck in the parking lot, I also l was thinking about the season. Mainly all the shots I missed.
I still have a long way to go till next season, but I’m ready for it.
