Do you know what rhymes with Easter? Baseball. Baseball rhymes with Easter. Ok maybe it doesn’t, but that didn’t stop me from photographing the Nationals vs Marlins on Easter weekend.
At Marlins Park the only Easter eggs I was really thinking about were from the Avengers Endgame movie. Sure Billy the Marlin had his pal the Easter Bunny out there helping the kids scavenge for eggs, but I couldn’t wait for the movie to premiere.
With the Nationals vs Marlins series, it brought another NL East foe to Miami as well as another young superstar, Juan Soto. Juan Soto is just a 20yr old kid. 20 years old and already in the big leagues. I can’t even tell you what I was doing at 20 it was that long ago. Rest assured I wasn’t playing professional baseball. First month of baseball and I see young talent like Nolan Arenado, Amed Rosario, Bryce Harper and now Juan Soto.
What really made the Nationals vs Marlins series really stick out to me was the weather. Late April and a cold front swept in and the humidity was gone. Even if for the weekend, it was perfect weather. The roof was open, the stars were peering down and baseball was being played. It really could get any better than that when asking for weather in late April in Miami.
While the Miami Marlins didn’t get a series sweep against the Washington Nationals, they played some of their best baseball so far in this MLB season. To see more photos and video, visit my Instagram page @jcruizphotography
