My third series photographing the Major League Baseball season featured the Phillies vs the Marlins. It was a NL East matchup coming on the heels of the NY Mets sweeping the Marlins at Marlins Park just a few days earlier. My third series in and I’ve already have my game day routine down like the players do.
Bryce Harper
I was excited for the Phillies vs Marlins matchup for a great reason, I get the photograph Bryce Harper. Bryce is a top 10 player in the league and he just signed a $330 million dollar contract prior to the season getting underway. Naturally all the media and press were there for Bryce and like me most of the images photographer were of Bryce Harper. I won’t lie I was hoping for a homerun or three from him, but nothing really popped off for him this series.
I photographed two out of the three games of the Phillies vs Marlins series. The first game, for me, was a hitting display by the Marlins. There were back to back homeruns and Austin Dean, who was just called up, had 4 hits and 5 rbis.
The second game was a 14 inning marathon. Honestly, it felts like both teams didn’t want to win. Hits were as scarce and both of the bullpens were doing their job. Well that was until the 14th inning when an Andrew McCutchen leadoff triple put the Phillies in the best spot to score and score they did. Jean Segura hit a 2-run homerun that won the game and the series for the Phillies.
