There are some games I photograph that go my way and others, not so much.The Detroit Lions victory of the Dolphins went my way. I won’t lie it was probably my best game of the season. So much so that my photos are plastered all over the social media accounts of the Detroit Lions.
Sure photographing sports takes skill, but luck plays a big role in it. I was lucky enough to put myself into positions to get the photos that the Lions wanted for their social media. First series for the Lions, I saw their quarterback, Matt Stafford, roll to my side of the endzone and throw a pass to his tight end right in front of me. My favorite shot of the game was the yelling Michael Robinson did after he caught the touchdown. Just pure, raw emotion and it happened in front of me.
LeGarrette Blount’s touchdown celebration was just a few yards away from me. Again, right place right time. It was just one of those days where everything went my way. I even used my phone to video the Kenny Stills touchdown where he was pushed into this poor security guard who never saw him coming. The video is on my Instagram page. Speaking of luck, another foot or so over I would have been the one who got run over.
After the game, sitting in the media room, I was just going through all the photos that I had to send to the Lions and the Dolphins. I had over a gig alone of game photos going to the Detroit Lions. On the Detroit Lions Instagram page you can see a lot of my work there. I even found my photos on their Facebook and Twitter accounts.
And that is the best feeling to be honest. Seeing your photos on an NFL team’s website and social media. It doesn’t get better than that and it also gives me a sense of validation that I’m on the right track.
